What is perfume?

Perfume (French: parfum) is a mixture of essential oils or aromatic compounds, fixatives, and solvents, used to give a pleasant scent to the human body, animals, food, objects, or living spaces. Generally, perfume comes in liquid form and is used to add an attractive fragrance to a person. Archaeological evidence and ancient documents show that perfume was used in some of the earliest human civilizations.Modern perfume began in the 19th century with the commercial synthesis of fragrant compounds such as vanillin and coumarin.


Types of perfume — Perfumes are divided into four main categories based on their fragrance concentration:

  1. Eau de Parfum (EDP): Contains about 10–20% aromatic oils

  2. Eau de Toilette (EDT): Contains about 5–15% aromatic oils

  3. Eau de Cologne (EDC): Contains about 3–8% aromatic oils

  4. Eau de Solide (EDS): Contains around 1% aromatic oils


How to store perfume — what’s the right temperature?

  1. Keep it at around 27°C (room temperature)

  2. Avoid exposure to temperatures above 30°C, even for a short time
